Status:  Watching the Rockets game!

This is probably the most frustrating task a future medical student must complete before beginning school - finding a suitable place to call “home” for the next four years. The current economic situation has made this a “buyer’s market” as of late, but the prices are still considerable. Regardless of where I go, I’ll be paying around $1,000 a month for lodging+utilities for a one bed/one bath… not too bad for the Texas medical center.

With just under a month left till my first medical school interview, I’m definitely looking forward to the experience. Interviewing has always been a strength of mine. From professionally connecting with the interviewer to transitioning between topics, the overall atmosphere really is conducive towards my speaking style; however, there’s the classic question which seems to always be asked (in one way or another) that I have to prepare myself for: “So Rishi, why do you want to be a doctor?”

From freshman year, I’ve constantly heard the “early applicants get the early seats” mantra, and vowed that when my time came, I would finish my applications to TMDSAS and AMCAS as early as humanly possible. TMDSAS opened on May 1st; however, my MCAT scores were posted online on May 19th. This is where my laziness began.

So I finally finished my TMDSAS application last week, and submitted it on Friday. Fortunately, my transcript was already received, and hopefully my application fee, photos, and certification page will all be in Austin by tomorrow. Now I’m waiting for the health professions committee to compile my recommendation letter and send it off. So the verdict - I’m an “early” applicant. =). Unfortunately, UT Southwestern’s secondary application is currently offline due to some technical difficulties, but hopefully that’ll be resolved really soon.

So today was my commencement ceremony. I wanted to thank everyone for their kind words before, during, and after the event, as well as those who took pictures with me! =). And Jamie and Joel and Rizwana/APO for going out of their way to bring me balloons/cards/flowers, etc. You guys really made this a memorable day! Check my Photos to see! =).
